3.13. Replacement of brake liquid and pumping of brake system

General information

Brake liquid is hazardous to health. Do not suck away her mouth through a hose. Store brake liquid only in capacity to which casual access of children is excluded.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Brake liquid is hygroscopic, i.e. has property to absorb moisture owing to what over time the point of its boiling decreases that at considerable load of brakes can lead to formation of steam bubbles in brake lines and reduce efficiency of action of brakes.
  2. For replacement of brake liquid the help of the assistant is required, however on HUNDRED this procedure is usually carried out by means of the special device. When pumping brake system the car should be parked on an equal horizontal platform.

Replacement of brake liquid and pumping of brake system

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Switch off ignition and separate the socket of electroconducting of the ABS activator.
  2. Uncover the tank of brake liquid (see illustrations Components of an impellent compartment of models with the M52 engine, Components of an impellent compartment of models with the M51 engine, Components of an impellent compartment of models with the M62 engine).
  3. Note a felt-tip pen on a tank wall the current level of brake liquid that then to allow it excess at replacement of brake shoes. Pump out from the tank brake liquid, having left at its bottom a liquid layer in thickness about 10 mm.

Do not delete from the tank all liquid, differently air will get to a hydraulic actuator of brake system and coupling.

  1. Fill the tank with fresh brake liquid to a label "MOVE".
  2. Carefully clear and remove protective caps of unions of pumping.
  3. Put on one end of a pure transparent hose the union of pumping of the back right brake mechanism, and other end insert into a vessel for collecting brake liquid. In capacity it is necessary to pour a little brake liquid and constantly to watch that the end of a hose was shipped in it. Also the capacity should be lifted, at least, on 30 cm over the pumping union to provide pressure and to interfere with intake of air to it.
Adaptation connection for pumping to the back brake mechanism
  1. Ask the assistant to 3-5 times to press sharply a brake pedal with intervals 2 ÷ 3 with and give the union on 1/2 ÷ 3/4 turn at the squeezed-out pedal. After the pedal of a brake will rest against a floor, tighten the union. Clean a foot from a pedal. Repeating this process, pump out old brake liquid (before emergence new which can be learned on light color).

If at the bottom of the tank there will be a liquid layer less than 10 mm, the system should be pumped over.

  1. Tighten the pumping union, close its protective cap and add in the tank new brake liquid.
  1. In the same way pump out old brake liquid consistently from other supports in sequence: the back left, forward right, forward left.

Merged brake liquid in any case should be pure and without air vials.

  1. Modify level of brake liquid according to in advance put mark
  2. Press a pedal of a brake and check its free wheeling. Make sure that the pedal of a brake does not "fail" at its squeezing – the free wheeling of a pedal should make its no more than 1/3 full of a speed.
  3. Check action of brakes on the road with not heavy traffic. For this purpose it is necessary to make not less than one strong braking, having checked at the same time ABS action. A sign of serviceable work of ABS is the pulsation of a pedal of a brake when braking.

The effect of action of ABS is best of all shown on an unpaved road.
