2.5.3. Use of automatic transmission (AT)
On considered models AT both with Steptronic system, and without it can be established. The Steptronic system allows to switch AT transfers as in an automatic mode, and manually.
The lever of the selector of AT modes is located in the lower part of the central console, between forward seats. AT is supervised by the electronic control unit. The standard complete set includes system of adaptive management of the transmission (ATC), precisely defining style of driving and road conditions, and on the basis of it choosing a certain program of management of AT, providing maximum efficiency of transmission.
At malfunction of a control system of AT or AT on the text display in a combination of devices the corresponding message («is deduced by TRANS. FAILSAFE PROG»). In this case it is necessary to stop, transfer the selector lever to the situation "P", to cock the parking brake and to switch off the engine. Wait some seconds and again start the engine. If the indicator goes out in some seconds, it will mean that AT restored the working parameters. Otherwise it is possible to continue movement, but AT will work with restrictions at the 3rd and 4th transfers, – avoid strong loads of the engine and at the first possibility address on HUNDRED AT for repair.
The positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" of the lever of the selector are available to all AT types. On AT with Steptronic system the provisions "M/S", «+» and «–», and on AT without Steptronic system – provisions "4", "3" and "2" are in addition available. Besides, on AT without Steptronic system the programs "A" (adaptive/economic), «M» (manual) and «S» (sports) AT managements are available.
AT has the Kick-down function – transfer fall at completely squeezed out pedal of gas if AT works in a mode "D". This function is used for ensuring the maximum acceleration, for example, when overtaking. After that there is a switching on an overgear if only the pedal of gas is not released till achievement of the maximum number of turns.
At inclusion of lowering transfer on the slippery road there is a danger of drift.
Blocking of the lever of the selector
In front on the handle of the lever of the selector of AT modes there is a button of removal of blocking of casual switchings of AT modes. Press the button for moving of the lever of the selector to the provisions "P" and "R", and also when switching a lever conclusion from the situation "P". Besides, for remaintaining the lever from the situation "P" in the provision of movement it is required to press a brake pedal.
AT operating modes
«P» (Parking) In the AT this situation is blocked, and back wheels cannot rotate. Before transferring the selector lever to this situation, completely stop the car and press the button of removal of blocking; when parking on a bias previously cock the parking brake.
Moving of the lever of the selector to the situation "P" at the moving car will cause blocking of wheels and loss of controllability of the car, and also will lead to AT damage. Do not use the situation "P" instead of the parking brake, – they should be shared.
«R» (Movement by a backing) This position of the lever of the AT selector is used for inclusion of transfer of a backing.
In order to avoid AT damage before inclusion of transfer of a backing make sure that the car is completely stopped. After inclusion of the mode "R" wait, that transfer was included into gearing (it is felt on draft of the engine).
«N» (Neutral situation) Wheels and transmission are not blocked, the car can be moved freely.
«D» (Movement) Normal position of the lever of the selector at car movement. AT is switched between all transfers of advance, proceeding from an optimum ratio of capacity and economy of fuel.
«4» and «S» (The fourth transfer and the sports program) This situation is recommended for receiving the maximum return from the car.
«2» and «3» (the 2nd and 3rd transfers) AT is switched only between transfers according to 1 on 2 or with 1 on 3. It is used for obtaining bigger draft at movement on lifting, for braking by the engine at movement on descent, and also for prevention of frequent switchings with 2 on 3 or with 3 on the 4th transfer. The choice of this situation also helps to reduce a proskalzyvaniye of wheels on the slippery road.
«A» the Adaptive program, automatically gets out at each start of the engine. At chosen provisions of advance the ATC system automatically defines optimum transfer.
The "M" Manual program, is intended for movement on one transfer (for example, on the 4th if the program "M" is chosen in a mode "D"). AT remains on the chosen transfer both during movement, and at a start of motion. For example, at movement on lifting at chosen the situation "2" AT does not make unnecessary switchings on raising transfers.
«M/S», «+», «-» the Manual mode and the sports program. When moving the lever of the selector from situation "D" the situation "M/S" (to the left) joins a sports mode to what the indicator "S" in a combination of devices testifies. When moving the lever of the selector forward or back (to situation «+» or «-») AT passes to a manual mode and combinations of devices turn on the indicator of the current chosen transfer (from M1 to M5).
